TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B (TRUE UNITY AND SPIRITUAL VICTORY)
“With divided hearts, we cannot access certain realms of Spiritual victory.” (Fr Chinedu)
True Unity and Spiritual Victory
Our unity is key to our spiritual victory. Wounded by sin, we turn against God, ourselves and each other, as this Sunday’s first reading shows us. In Jesus, we are one in love, and thus, invited to walk in the oneness of heart. “By this people will know that you are mine” (John 13:34-35). Our spiritual victory flows from our unity. No amount of strategic inventiveness as a church, can substitute our oneness.
We risk losing in our spiritual battles if we take for granted Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel, “A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.” As satan’s kingdom cannot stand if divided against itself so shall we not as God’s people. With divided hearts, we cannot access certain realms of Spiritual victory.
We attain the oneness required for spiritual victory through prayers and deliberate actions. “Do all you can to preserve the bond of peace among you” (Ephesians 4:3). We begin from ourselves since every true communal oneness is a function of interior unity. May the Holy Spirit enlighten, heal us from the wounds of our divisions and empower us to rise above the passing things which divide us as St Paul encourages us in today’s second reading. Lord, heal us from the wounds of our divisions. Amen
